TAX COLLECTOR

Paula S. Ferreira, CTC, QPA

Tax bills are mailed once a year. They are due quarterly: February 1, May 1, August 1 and November 1. There is a 10-day grace period each quarter. If the 10th of the month falls on a weekend or a holiday, the grace period will be extended to the next working day. Payment can be made in person or by mail. Cash, check or money order is accepted. We do not accept credit cards. If you mail in your payment and would like a receipt, please include a self-addressed stamped envelope. Payment is processed the day it is received in the office. Please note that postmark dates are not accepted and interest will be applied. Interest is charged at 8% for the first $1500.00 of delinquency and 18% on the remaining amount. Once interest is at 18% it will remain so until the entire balance is paid in full. If payment is after the grace period interest is retroactive to the due date of the 1st of the quarter. In addition, if there is a balance at the end of the year in the amount of $10,000 including interest or more that is due, an additional 6% year end penalty will be applied. You are responsible for your real estate taxes whether or not you have a bill in your possession. You can call the office for the amount due and if you need a copy of your bill we will prepare one for you.

TAX REBATE PROGRAMS
• PTR – Property Tax Reimbursement (also known as the Tax Freeze). Once you have applied to the program you will automatically receive the booklet from the State each year. Age 65, residency, and income requirements apply.
• Homestead Rebate – If you qualify an application will be sent to you by the State and if so the amount approved is sent to us to reduce your taxes due by that amount. We will then adjust your payment accordingly.

For additional information on these programs, please visit the New Jersey Division of Taxation website.

TAX DEDUCTION PROGRAMS
• Veterans Deduction – qualified veterans of the United States who served in the time of war may be entitled to a deduction of $250.00.
• Senior Citizen and Disabled Persons – Qualified persons over the age of 65 and 100% disabled persons of any age who make less than $10,000 annually excluding Social Security may be entitled to a yearly deduction of $250.00.
