General Description

The Urban Enterprise Zone program designation was awarded to the City of Orange Township in 1984 to revitalize the community by encouraging business development, job growth and economic development.  Qualified retail businesses have the ability to charge 3.5% NJ sales tax on purchases.  This incentive is beneficial to the city because the sales tax revenue is given back to the community.  The money is placed in a Zone Assistance Fund and reinvested in improvement projects for the city, such as the UEZ Policing Project, Litter Collection Services, and Litter Collection Equipment (to name a few). Another way Orange benefits from the UEZ is that the revenues generated from the 3.5% sales tax are plowed back into the community to fund programs and services that stimulate and encourage economic development.

The Orange UEZ is provides valuable assistance to businesses, their employees, and their customers. Look at some of the ways the UEZ program can help get your business into high gear:

  • 100% sales tax exemption on most business-related purchases.
  • 3.5% Sales Tax — retail businesses may charge their customers 50% of the standard 7% NJ sales tax.
  • One-time corporation tax credit of $1,500 for each qualified new employee.
  • Subsidized unemployment insurance for certain new employees with gross salaries of less than $4,500 per quarter.
  • Tax credit against the Corporation Business Tax of 8%.
  • Priority financial assistance from the New Jersey Local Development Financing
  • Fund and Department of Labor Job Training Program.
