Orange cites owners after property review
City officials in Orange joined with a City Council member on a recent tour to inspect West Ward properties. The reviews resulted in citations for nine properties.

Councilman Hassan Abdul Rasheed and the City’s Quality of Life Task Force traveled along Central Avenue and Scotland Road to see properties after he expressed concerns about code violations.

The task force included Curtiss Webb, public officer and zoning official; Fire Capt. Jim Rothen berger; Vincent DeFillipo, health officer; Police Lt. Robert McCauley; Calvin Bell, deputy public works director, and Larry Mitschke, a construction official.

“Together with the Quality of Life Task Force, I am keeping a close watch on West Ward buildings whose owners are failing to maintain their properties,” said Abdul-Rasheed.“ If these landlords fail to quickly respond to the violation notices, I will see to it that their properties are repeatedly inspected and more violations issued.”

During the inspections, citations were issued to these properties:

• 320 Central Ave.: Citation issued to the mini-mart and launderette to repair or replace broken windows.

• 332 Central Ave.: Citation issued to remove all debris.

• 334 Central Ave.: Citation to remove all stacked pavers in front yard.

• 425 Central Ave.: Citation to repair front steps, paint fire escapes, remove debris from landing and repair cracks in the wall and ceiling for common areas on the first through third floors.

• 433 Central Ave.: Citation issued to repair driveway entrance, remove inoperable vehicles, paint house and fire escape, remove debris and repair or replace broken windows.

• 445-447 Central Ave.: Citation issued to paint fire escape, repair exterior lighting, repair over hang at front of building, repair deteriorating concrete and remove barbed wire in the rear.

• 462 Central Ave.: Citation issued to remove inoperable taxi cabs in the rear.

• 490 Central Ave.: Citation issued to remove debris on the property.

• 290 Scotland Road: Citation to remove vehicles being parked on the vacant property.
