General Description

The construction sub-code officials serve the citizens of Orange by enforcing the Uniform Construction Code of the State of New Jersey.  The Building Division is comprised of five sub-code functions: Building, Electrical, Plumbing, Fire and Elevators, which help to enforce the Uniform Construction codes.  Some activities may also require Zoning approval. Permits are required for most projects.  Reviews with contractors by appointment only.  Please allow 24 hours advance notice to schedule an appointment for an inspection.  Inspections should be performed within 3 business days of the time for which it was requested.

All inspections should be scheduled directly with Sub-code Officials.

General Information

Permits and Zoning Approvals are required for:

Additions and alterations to all properties
Sheds over 100sq feet
Pools
Fences
Decks

Permits are required for:

Roofing and siding
Installation of new burglar and/or fire alarm system
Replacement of any heating or cooling system and/or hot water heater.
Change in fuel from oil to natural gas, require oil tank abandonment within six months (demolition permit)

Zoning approvals are required for:

Sheds under 100sq feet
Patios
Driveway Expansion
