HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT

Heat related illnesses are more common when the temperature is above 95 degrees and the humidity is more than 80%.  People most at risk are infants and older adults.  Other risk factors include; dehydration, fatigue, obesity, people with chronic disease such as heart disease and diabetes.

SUMMER TIPS FOR STAYING COOL

  • Wear loose light-colored clothing and a hat when you go outdoors in hot weather
  • Stay hydrated and eat small meals.  Drink water or sport drinks frequently during the day even when you do not feel thirsty.
  • Take frequent breaks in shady or air-conditioned areas to cool down
  • Don’t drink alcohol or caffeine beverages during hot days, it may cause dehydration
  • Take time to get used to hot weather conditions before participating in strenuous activities.  Those who participate in outdoor sports activities should try to do so during evening hours not during the day, when the sun is at its peak.

Signs of heatstroke are:

  • Confusion,
  • Bizarre behavior
  • Loss of coordination
  • Hallucinations
  • Agitation
  • Seizures
Call 911 immediately if someone has the above signs /symptoms of heatstroke
