The Orange Quality of Life Task Force

Last year, Mayor Eldridge Hawkins created a task force to monitor chronic maintenance, sanitation, fire, and crime prevention targets throughout the city. He instituted this program to strengthen and support Orange’s extensive economic development and redevelopment efforts.

  • The Task Force includes the City’s Administration, Planning, Police, Fire, Public Works, and Community Services departments.
  • The primary goals are to improve citywide inspection coverage, cure chronic violations; update code enforcement regulations; and address blighting influences throughout the city.
  • Some of the specific activities currently in progress include: intensifying the warrant execution process; escalating the response to illegal dumping and graffiti; improving neighborhoods near current development sites; demolishing abandoned buildings, providing additional training for code enforcement staff; improving property maintenance coverage on weekends; and strengthening existing code enforcement ordinances.
