Orange Alerts Residents and Property Owners About Construction Details For Chestnut Street Water Treatment Facility and Pump Station
Text of Letter from Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr. and Acting Director of Public Works Arlene Kemp to residents and property owners in the vicinity of the new Chestnut Street facility:
Dear Property Owner or Resident,
This is to notify you that the City of Orange Township’s Contractor, Scafar Contracting, Inc., will commence the construction of the new Chestnut Street Treatment Facility and Pump Station beginning in May, 2009. The construction project is part of the City’s ongoing effort to improve the City’s water system infrastructure. The project is also necessary to allow new tax-paying development, needed by Orange, to reduce future property taxes. No water service disruptions are anticipated.
The construction project which is boarded by Chestnut & Beach Streets between Valley Street and the West Orange border, involves the demolition of a portion of the existing Chestnut Street Facility to permit the construction of a new replacement Chestnut Street Water Treatment Facility and Pump Station. The replacement Facility will have the capability of delivering drinking water into the City’s water distribution system at a 5.0 million gallon per day rate.
Construction is anticipated to begin in May, 2009 and run through April, 2010. Construction activities are expected to be undertaken between 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Closure of Chestnut Street between Valley Street and the West Orange border will occur from May, 2009 through to April, 2010. Intermittent traffic delays and/or closures of Valley Street in the area of Beach and Chestnut Streets will also take place.
We apologize for the inconvenience and will do our best to minimize the disruption caused by this construction. Your patience and understanding as we proceed with this project are greatly appreciated. Please share this information with your family and/or tenants. If you or your tenants have any questions or concerns, please call the Public Works Office at (973) 266-4031. Thank you in advance for your support.
