Mayor Hawkins opens new Police Sub Station in the West Ward

Statement from Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr.

“I am very excited about the opening of the police substation at 95 South Essex Avenue and I thank Ed Martoglia from RPM Development for allowing us to house an extension of our Police Department in his complex. It is critical to the quality of life for our City that our police department has a presence and home at different locations throughout the City.

Background:

At the request of Councilman Hassan Abdul-Rasheed, Former Councilwoman Maria Vandermeer, Orange’s Little Italy Task Force and community residents, a police substation has been established at 95 South Essex Avenue. The space is provided by RPM Development Group, owner of the building.

The new substation provides a police presence in a neighborhood that Orange has targeted for development as a tourist, dining, and cultural destination. At the substation, information is available about crime prevention and other Police Department services. Crime situations and quality of life issues may be reported at this location and forwarded to the police as well as Health, Fire, Public Works, and other departments.
Emergencies should still be reported by calling 911.

The substation is staffed by Detective Betty Hill.

Police Sub Station:
The purpose of the substation is to inform the public of services available through the Police Department and to contact the public in a positive manner.

Children and youth fingerprint packages may be obtained at the Substation. The booklet Youth Identification and Protection handbook contains a wealth of valuable information concerning child protection and safety. A copy is given with each set of fingerprints taken.

Crime Prevention Information:
The substation will help to make the public aware of information and techniques to keep them from becoming victims of crime. The station can provide information on programs and activities such as : Self Help Information, Shelters, Neighborhood Watch, Business Watch, Security Survey, etc.

Quality of Life
Quality of life issues may be reported at this location and the report will be forwarded to the proper department within the City.
