Mayor Hawkins Announces Deployment of New Crime Fighting Technology
At a Town Hall Meeting on policing in Orange, held Tuesday, October 11th , 7:00 pm at the Bethel Baptist Church and sponsored by Coujncilman Elroy Corbitt, Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr. announced the coming deployment of new crime fighting technology.
The Orange Police Department is currently on schedule to upgrade its computer assisted dispatch and records management system. This new dispatch system will have the capability to merge data from all of the various state, national and local crime and records databases and present it not only to the dispatcher but to the officer in the field. In addition the officer would be able to fill out his report right from the police car and have his supervisor review the incident report without having the officer return to the base.
There will also be the added value of standard and custom reports on the statistical data entered into the database.
Key Benefits
-Captures data at the point of incident
-Real-time data and queries in the field
-Improved productivity and reporting accuracy
-Reduced overtime
-Integrated communication with other agency databases
-Reduced operational costs
The vendor Enforsys is working with Orange to deploy its Polysis CAD,and RMS systems.
PoliSys is a multi-media, browser-based software solution that includes Computer Aided Dispatch,
Records Management System (RMS), and full mobile computing. Its capabilities include GIS enabled crime analysis, National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) interface and numerous reporting functions
including Uniform Crime Reports (UCR).
While the PoliSys system seamlessly integrates the main functionalities of CAD, RMS, and mobile data computers (MDC), it also serves the needs of reporting, vehicle maintenance management, personnel scheduling, and time and attendance. PoliSys interfaces with other data sources such as the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the State Crime Information Center (SCIC).
Statement by Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr.
“This new dispatch system is another step forward in Orange’s strategy of deploying state-of-the-art crime fighting technology. We have leveraged federal grants to deploy surveillance cameras, put computers in police cars, and now connect our patrols directly with national crime databases.”
