Orange Receives Grant for Hurricane and Snow Storm Clean Up.

Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr. announced today that Orange has received federal funding to hire three temporary workers to help with clean up in the aftermath of Hurricane Irene and the November ice storm.

The grant is part of a $142,000 Federal National Emergency Grant that will create 14 jobs in Fairfield, Caldwell, Bloomfield, Orange and Irvington.

The funds are part of a larger $7.8 million federal grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Labor designed to create 500 temporary jobs in New Jersey to help with storm relief. So far, $2.6 million of the grant has been released and additional funds will be made available as the state demonstrates a need for more aid.

The Orange residents will work on cleanup, removing debris and repairing public infrastructure.

The three temporary workers started on Monday, November 28th and will work full time until the end of February. Other counties that have created temporary jobs using the National Emergency Grant include Morris, Union, Passaic and Bergen counties.

Statement by Mayor Eldridge Hawkins, Jr.
“These temporary employees will help our Department of Public Works with the continuing cleanup after the two major storms. I want to thank County Executive Joe DiVincenzo for helping to bring these funds to Orange.”
